A259 improvements

County Highways are upgrading the A259 as part of Arun’s Local Plan to increase capacity and improve traffic-flow. This is in conjunction with the northward expansion of Littlehampton that will support the provision of at least 800 new homes and 8.95 hectares of new employment space.

Construction has started on site to build a new dual-carriageway to replace the existing single-carriageway between the new Fitzalan link road and the Body Shop roundabout and the single-carriageway between Station Road, Angmering and the A280 roundabout. There will be further infrastructure improvements to the Littlehampton Broad Piece roundabout and Goring Crossways junction. Improved pedestrian and cyclist accessibility will be created with the of approximately 2km of new paths, new bridges and a toucan crossing.

The dual carriageway works have a budget of £25.8m; jointly funded by the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, West Sussex County Council and by private developer contributions. WSCC is working with contractor Volker Fitzpatrick to deliver the works scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2022.
